Happy Earth Day!

April 22, 2020

Kind of feels like Mother Earth gave us all a time out for her birthday and sent us to our rooms while she took a much needed break.

There is no doubt that due to the response to COVID-19 with less cars on the streets and less pollution, the air is cleaner. You can see mountains that have been hidden by smog and I hear those that live near the ocean in California can see islands past Catalina.

With less people out, animals are returning to areas that were too populated (turtles returning to nest on beaches) and we all have been given an opportunity to slow down and think about what is important and perhaps live a little less excessively.

Perhaps I have disconnected a little from media (including social media) but there seems to be less friction and less fighting, or if there is, it is less frequent and a little softer.
Most have become a little more heart centered and a lot more grounded.

Whether our emissions and carbon foot print are responsible for Global Warming or not, I think we can all agree that the pristine clear air is welcome side effect of this forced staycation.

The human race has disrespected our planet and there are some things that we can do better. So however long we have left sheltering in place, I hope as restrictions lift we can all work together to care a little more for our planet.

So in honor of Earth Day ... here are a few things that I think can make a difference ....

Reduce, reuse and recycle ...

Currently we cannot use reusable grocery bags but please make sure to recycle the paper ones they are currently offering along with all the packaging from Amazon and any other shipments you are getting. Better yet, you can remove labels from boxes and padded envelopes and give them a second life.

If you are ordering take out or delivery, decline the single use plastic utensils and straws and use your own cutlery.

Where possible, refill a reusable water bottle instead of buying single use plastics and when not possible, please remember to recycle.

Be sure to sort through the items you dispose. We have special collections for electronics recycling. While stores are not accepting them currently, Staples gives money back towards future purchases when you recycle ink cartridges and there are special collection centers for paints and hazardous waste.

And whatever you do, please do not throw your single use masks or rubber gloves on the ground.

Happy Earth Day!

The COVID-19 Chrysalis …

March 25, 2020

A very masculine friend of mine recently posted that he started tearing up after checking in at the airport. During these challenging times, we are all bound to experience a full range of emotions. When the rug with basic needs of safety, security, control and freedom feels like it has been pulled out from under us, how can we shift from uncertainty, anxiety and short-term fear, to faith, hope and have the ability to see the long-term opportunity and potential?

These are strange and unprecedented times. You can either stay glued to the news and stress yourself out or take advantage and spring clean your house, catch up on reading OR work on your business so when things turn around you are ready for a bright future.

I challenge you to use this time wisely and invest in your business in a way that you may not have been able to before. Use time, energy, thoughts and creativity to rebrand, expand, create and cross things off that never ending do list that never seems to get done.

It can be hard to get into a creative mindset of focusing on creating those sales tools, EPKs and things you have always wanted to do but never had the time when you really feel like diving into your quarantine ice cream and potato chips to mask your feelings instead of working. This is not the time to lay in bed all day or binge watch Netflix.

Take advantage of this time and think of it like a caterpillar in a cocoon. How can you use this time so you emerge, transformed?

There are many ways you can adjust your mindset but if you shift your energy first, everything else follows. A great way to start is to get grounded and cut cords to all the chaos. Learn how with these videos at Freekickstarter.com.

We’re in this TOGETHER!  No matter how alone you may feel. You are isolated, not alone. So if it becomes overwhelming, reach out to a friend. Reach out to all your friends. Thank God for video conferencing, WhatsApp’d and FaceTime. Grab a cup of tea and schedule a video date with a friend you have not had the time to see because you were too busy. Reconnect!

Another simple way of shifting energy and mindset quickly is to MOVE! Get back into your body with simple exercises and movement, even if it’s just a few jumping jacks OR DANCE, like no one is watching. If you have young ones at home it will help them release some pent up energy and reconnect you as a family too!

My recommended song for the day ...

Relieving anxiety during COVID-19!

March 19, 2020

Event planning has been listed in the top 5 most stressful careers, but the spread of COVID-19 and how it has affected the event industry has created more stress than usual.

Anxiety and stress weaken the immune system and the media thrives on spreading fear and panic. In hoping a new positive “viral” thinking will replace the fear based thinking that is currently running rampant, here are two great resources to help you focus on staying healthy and strong!

WHO released a mental health guideline for people to cope with anxiety surrounding COVID-19. One of the things it says is to “avoid watching, reading or listening to news that cause you to feel anxious or distressed; seek information mainly to take practical steps to prepare your plans and protect yourself and loved ones.” Check it out for other great tips.

Meditation is a great way to help ease anxiety, cope with stress and calm the mind. This one is a jewel and helps you focus on healing your body AND healing the world. http://bit.ly/2xzNr9d

While you are there, check out the Soothing Spray.
